In the 1920‘s a full scale bottle house was made in the goldrush town of Rhyolite.
In the 1960’s Alfred Heineken came up with the World Bottle, or WOBO.
Three years in design and he had the ideal brick for holding beer. The WOBO was created and even went into limited production before being killed off by Heineken’s PR team. They feared for the companies reputation from association with poverty and with waste.
Jason Thawley is building Tree Tents. He worked with us on the groundhouse in brittany
The reason for that was partly a sense of shared vision and partly the amazing quality of the eco lighting solutions he was working on. It meant that we got some beautiful and special 12 v drop lights for the house, but we also got the benefit of his guidance on mainstream eco bulbs and responsible manufacturers.
So its no surprise to me that Jason, having built his own eco house on a tight building plot in Brighton, has turned his creative focus to rural low impact shelter
He has successfully taken his engineering and design flair into the trees – something I am sure a lot of people are going to be grateful…as Jason says:
“Forests ARE our future… and to sustain this future forests need to be used for more than just harvesting timber during their lifetimes”
